I dumped the bike today.
I dumped the bike today (3/4) on an off ramp. According to the passengers of the auto following me my rear tire slipped off the white painted arrow on the pavement that I didn’t do anything wrong. One of the guys was a dirt bike racer so I figure he knows what he was talking about. Both he and Ron said the arrow was more slippery than normal. The damage was only a broken clutch lever, scratched engine guards, and a little scratch on the front fender on the bike and a quarter size bruise on my right knee. We stopped at the Harley shop in Gainesville, FA and spending the night, waiting for the shop to open and a replacement clutch handle… Daytona-Tomorrow
We are in Pensecola, Florida.
I am psyched. I, Candace Susanne Hunter Blood, rode my motorcycle from Washington to Florida. Yes! In my wildest dreams I never thought I would ever have attempted such an adventure. Whether one calls it maturity or a gift from God, I feel differently about self and others. I am grateful that life is like a half full glass of water.
Tomorrow-Daytona!
Ron asked me if I blogged about the debit card flying out of his pocket while traveling through Texas, loosing his boot in a motel room and “misplacing” his dew rag. It was nice of him to remind me.
Daytona-Tomorrow!
I was amazed by the contry side through Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The trees got taller and the underbrush got thicker. The concrete highways are in terrible shape, asphalt highways were smooth. There is road construction everywhere.
Tomorrow-Daytona!
Traffic congestion today was caused by manufactured homes on the highway (for Kristina survivors?) We went to Waveland thinking we could go on 90, the scenic route, along the coast to see the damage but had to turn around as the bridge was out. There is a lot of blow down in the timber, mostly snapped in half, and that hanging in other trees. Large piles of debris on the road side, Lots of trucks hauling it to a landfill. Plastic and paper is everywhere. Businesses don’t have enough employees to maintain normal working hour. A Wendy’s only had drive up service, dining room was closed. They had a help wanted sign up that offered a $125/week bonus or $250/pay day. An I-Hop’s hours were 6am to 3pm; the hostess told us that there isn’t enough staff to keep the restaurant open. She stated all the staff are in the area but choose not to come to work. She said they need to come back to work, the government isn’t and shouldn’t buy them a new house, and they need to take care of themselves!
Daytona-Tomorrow
Driving through Huston (3/3) was a bear…construction everywhere, lane changes and detours. Traffic slowed us way down and we didn’t make our 500 miles, but we did make it to Lake Charles, Louisianna. Weather is beautiful for riding, no rain, overcast-blocking the direct sun. If you are contemplating this ride wait until the rodes are finished, I-10 needs all the repair it is getting.
