Our Last Night in Daytona

We have had quite the week, now it is over and we will start for the Keys tomorrow. What kept us in Daytona?...Ron's engine blew. Thank God it did so while we were here and not on the freeway at 70mph. Ron went for dinner, after a very long time he calls me to get ahold of AAA for a tow, his engine wouldn't turn over. The next day we went to an electrical shop that tested all the sort of stuff and then sent us to a motorcycle shop to check out the engine. It was deemed a piece of toast. Shouldn't be a problem with Bike Week going on (not so). Ron's bike took its fifth tow truck ride to Carls Speed Shop and recieved a 124 cubic inch S&S engine and another super dooper ignition. We went to pick it up yesterday and it wouldn't start, Ron was so disappointed. However, we picked up the bike today after the coil was replaced. Ron spent the rest of today putting the first 50 miles on the engine and changing the oil.

We didn't waste the time while waiting for the bike repair. We spent it riding around the area, eating out, and reading. Our motel has a swimming pool but can you believe it, it was to cold for swimming most of the time.

As I mentioned before, Bike Week is very big, spread out throughout the surrounding area. Very few people ride here, the entire area fills up with trailers. This is pretty much the beginning of the riding season for most of the people. The the bikes take to the road, and not like Sturgis, there are alot of cars on the road. It is so busy and isn't very safe, 18 fatalities this year. This year an added phenomenon occurred, Spring Break started the last weekend of Bike Week.

I have enjoyed my time here in Daytona but am looking forward to riding on.
